Clinical Supervision for CBT Therapists

If you're looking for a clinical supervisor who’s experienced and knows her stuff, but is first of all human, I might be your person.

I’m accredited by the BABCP (British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies) as a CBT Clinical Supervisor, I supervise on one of London’s biggest and most reputable CBT courses and also in my other job as Senior CBT Therapist. I also don’t take myself too seriously.

So, whether you’re training, newly qualified, or been around the block for a while, I’m here to help you continue to develop your CBT skills, general clinical skills, but also think about process issues and who you are (and want to be) as a therapist - all while we’re both sipping tea, having a little rant, and showing each other our respective pets. (or I’ll at least volunteer Calli, my dog).

Supervision is your space.

If you’ve ever had a supervisor you didn’t ‘click’ with, who kept banging on about things you didn’t agree with but you were too self-conscious to ask more questions, or who took charge of the session so you left feeling more confused, you know how important it is to find someone you can be yourself with. Someone you can ask any question because you don’t feel judged, someone who shares their own experiences, someone who supports you not just in getting better at CBT, but also at being the kind of therapist you want to be. Someone who is human first.

That’s who I want to be for you.

And the good news is, we can decide together if I am! Whatever your experience, goals, or caseload, we’ll work together to make sure you get the most out of your supervision time.

My qualifications and experience…

  • BABCP (British Association of Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies) Accreditation as Therapist and Supervisor

  • Supervise one day per week on one of the biggest and most reputable CBT PgDips in London

  • Worked and supervised trainees, newly-qualified and more experienced clinicians in NHS Talking Therapies (including as a senior therapist and manager) and secondary care services

  • Clinical Supervisor Course (CBT/IAPT), University of Surrey

  • MSc Psychological Therapies - Practice and Research - High Intensity CBT (Top-Up), University of Exeter - and now also offer research supervision on the same course

  • PgDip Psychological Intervention (CBT), University of Surrey

  • Mindfulness Teacher Training Pathway (Level 1 Mindfulness Teacher Training, Inquiry Workshop, Foundations of Mindfulness Retreat, Groupwork Workshop, MBSR Specialist Training, Level 2 Teacher Training), The Mindfulness Network/Bangor University

  • MSc Clinical Neuroscience, University College London (UCL)

  • BSc (Hons) Psychology, University of York

Some things I can help with…

  • Developing and practising formulation and treatment skills, especially transdiagnostically - think sharing formulation diagrams on screen and refining them, thinking about treatment plans, role-playing bits of interventions, listening to recordings and feeding back (oh no, the dread!)

  • Thinking through process issues like how to handle difficult moments

  • Learning about, or developing what you already know in terms of integrating Mindfulness and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) into your CBT practice - or even working start to end in ACT way

  • Thinking a bit more about your values and your style - who do you want to be as a therapist?

  • Developing your confidence and thinking through stuff that comes up for you as a therapist

  • Talking abour career progression and options

 The details

  • You can (and should!) have a free 15-minute intro call to make sure we click. After that, all supervision sessions last 50 minutes and take place online, usually on Zoom.

  • Supervision sessions cost £120 per 50 minutes.

  • There’s no straight-forward answer to this as it will depend on your experience, goals, and caseload.

The BABCP requirement for ongoing or reinstating accreditation is a minimum of 1.5 hours per month if you work full-time, or a minimum of 45 minutes per month if you work part-time - it’s recommended that this is pro-rata based on your clinical work.

The BABCP also suggest that newly-qualified therapists have a higher frequency and duration of supervision than more experienced colleagues.

  • Although I have lots of experience in ‘second-wave’ CBT and that’s what I mostly supervise nowadays, my passion lies in mindfulness and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). So, I can (and love to!) also offer ACT supervision, and/or supervision around integrating ACT and mindfulness approaches into CBT.

Let’s work together

A no-pressure 15-minute chance to ask me any questions, and more importantly, see if we ‘click’.
